Kostas Kostagiorgos

Violin – Kostas Kostagiorgos

Biography

Kostas was born in Platanousa, Tzoumerka, and is the son of a family of musicians (his great-grandfather was a professional violinist).

He began his study of the violin entirely empirically at the age of 12. While he played for several years with rebetiko companies in Athens, in the early 1980s, he returned to Epirus and became active mainly in folk singing, collaborating with great clarinet soloists and singers.

He joined the company of the clarinet virtuoso Grigoris Kapsalis, with whom he studied for 23 years. Close to Christos Zotos, a virtuoso lute player, he acquired great knowledge of the repertoire of both Epirus and Xiromero. He has a large discography and many professional collaborations with most virtuosos in clarinet and singing with an emphasis on Epirus folk songs.

He teaches violin at the University of Ioannina at the School in Arta.

He was a violin teacher at the first “Mousika Ktismata” in 2025
