Biography

Coming from a family of singers of folk tradition, he was acquainted with folk singing from a young age. Since 1983 he has been involved in the research and performance of the folk song of Epirus, Macedonia, Thessaly and Central Greece.

He studied Byzantine music at the Skalkotas Conservatory with Lykourgos Angelopoulos, vocals with Lucia Fracea and completed his studies at the Physical Education University of Athens.

He taught traditional singing at the Department of Greek Traditional Music of the Technical University of Arta, at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia, at the Musical Village, Agios Lavrentios, in seminars in Greece and abroad and in private lessons.

His first appearances were with the musical group «ТЕRIRЕΜ». Since then, he has collaborated with many older and younger musicians, making appearances throughout Greece and abroad in concerts and theater performances.

In 1993, his first recording work titled “Songs from Zagori and Ioannina” was released in 1993 with the participation of Gregoris Kapsalis at the clarinet and ten other notable musicians and the friendly participation of the band “ΤΕRΙRΕΜ”, of Christow Zotos and George Kotsinis. Giorgos Synglétos and Giorgos Papadakis were in charge of the orchestra.

The tracks of “Songs from Zagori and Ioannina” were used in the movie “Athens Konstantinople” of Nikos Panagiotopoulos.

«Patímata» is the title of the second album published by iamvos in 2001.

It includes 16 songs with a reference point to Pogoni of Epirus. Participants included Petroloukas Chalkias, (clarinet), Christodoulos Zoumbas (lute and music editor) and four more important  musicians. The edition has the form of a book with extensive historical and musical comments (Greek and English) and photographic material.

The two discs received enthusiastic reviews from the whole music industry – not only from the media – and were presented live with concerts in cities in Greece and abroad.
