Biography

Vasilis Triantis was born in Preveza. He started playing music at a young age, taking classical guitar lessons. He later studied the lute, where his teacher was the great luthier Christos Zotos.

He is a graduate of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science of the Democritus University of Thrace and a graduate of the Department of Folk and Traditional Music of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus.

He has collaborated with many of the leading musicians of Greek traditional music of the older and modern generations, as well as with artists of the art music scene such as the composer Yannis Markopoulos as a lute player in the Palintonos Armonia orchestra, and on recordings with Babis Stokas, Giorgos Mazonakis, etc., while for many years he has participated in concerts and festivals in Greece and abroad. He has also participated in recording projects of traditional and art music, as well as in music shows on state and private television. In 2015, he recorded the CD “ARTA” with traditional Epirus pieces on the English record label JSP for the two-time Grammy-winning American music producer Christopher King. In 2019, his first personal album entitled “Portolanos” was released by Violins Productions. Since then, he has been presenting his work at Festivals and Music Stages with his band, while to date he has released two more singles.

His music has been played on radio and state television shows. In the summer of 2020, he presented his compositions in a concert at the Roman Odeon of Nicopolis, as part of the August Full Moon concerts of the Ministry of Culture. In parallel with his artistic activity, he has served for twenty-three years as a lute and ensemble teacher in Music Schools. of Attica and the province, while in recent years he has served as an organist at the Athens Music School. He has taught at the traditional music school of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, where he was also a member of the Archdiocese’s “Kanon” orchestra, and has also taught in music workshops throughout Greece.
