Biography

He was born and raised in Ioannina. His parents are originally from Megali Gotista and Megalo Peristeri in the Municipality of Metsovo. He started classical violin in 1986 at the age of 12 at the Epirus Conservatory “Tsakalof”. He soon realized that what expresses him most is the “Folk” violin and began lessons with the folk instrument player from Megali Gotista, Yiannis Panou (Teli) and later with the violin virtuoso Kostas Kostageorgos. At the same time, he continued classical violin, where he graduated in 1999 from the Municipal Conservatory of Ioannina. He is a graduate of the postgraduate program in Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in “folk” violin.

He has collaborated with leading Epirus musicians such as Grigoris Kapsalis, Petros Loukas, Stavros Kapsalis, Nikos Filippidis, Giorgos Kotsinis, etc. in many events, celebrations, festivals and folk music concerts. He was a founding member of the group “Epirotiko Takimi” with the clarinet virtuoso Thomas Chaligiannis from Parakalamos and has participated in many recordings of traditional Epirus music. He was a professor of Folk Violin at the Municipal Conservatory of Ioannina from 1998 to 2006 and at the Music School of Ioannina from the same year until today. In the academic year 2022-23 he taught violin at the Department of Music Studies of the University of Ioannina (Arta) as an adjunct professor.
