Biography
Nikos Filippidis was born in Kerasovo Konitsa, Ioannina Prefecture. The first child of the famous clarinetist Filippas, he comes from a large family of musicians.
At the age of six he began playing the flute and at the age of eight he played the santouri, violin, tambourine, lute, accordion and clarinet with his father. At sixteen he went to Athens. During this first period in Athens he became an indispensable musician at the festivities of his co-villagers in Athens.
After servicing in the army, clarinet became his exclusive occupation. During that period he also engaged in the research of traditional music.
Nikos Filippidis has a long service in the field of our Greek music, which stems from the deep knowledge and sensitivity of his art.
He participates with his band in cultural events, concerts, theatrical performances (Epidaurus, Megaron, Herodion) television and radio broadcasts, both in Greece and abroad. He also has a rich and fruitful discography with the best Greek performers. His catalytic role that he has played and is playing in the field of Greek traditional music has its own artistic and historical value, because his high-level performing ability is combined with his personal view of the art of the clarinet that lead to paths that open or change direction after his own intervention in the musical process.
His love for the clarinet and related aerophonic musical instruments, his restless and investigative spirit in the field of instrumental design have resulted in the construction of various musical instruments as well as his clarinet that he plays himself.
His style and ethos earn him the respect of everyone, regardless of his collaborators and audience.
